How To Turn Stretched Out Jeans Into A Midi Jean Skirt
I thrifted this worn out pair of Madewell Jeans and they didn’t fit very well on my body. Instead of tossing them, I decided to try to reinvent them into something new… a jean midi skirt! Here’s how I did it:
1. Find a pair of jeans that you’re okay with destroying.. ideally a pair that fits your waist but is too large in the legs.
I recommend thrifting them for a more inexpensive and low risk option. Mine were only 50 cents at my local thrift store!
2. Wash in HOT WATER and dry on HIGH HEAT.
This is to shrink them as much as possible.
3. Put the jeans on and mark the length of the skirt you want.
I recommend adding a few inches to be safe in case you mess it up!
4. Use a seam ripper to remove the seams from the inside of the legs up to the crotch area.
This is tedious, but the worst of all the steps! Watch a movie or listen to a podcast to pass the time.
5. Use a sewing machine to connect the middle of the jeans in the front.
I recommend leaving the bottom of the front a slit so it’s easier to walk.
6. Use a sewing machine to connect the middle of the jeans in the back.
7. Try on the skirt and use clips or pins to mark if you need to make nay areas tighter.
Sew to fit better if necessary - or just leave as is!
8. Fold over and sew or stitch the edges of the bottom of the skirt if you want to prevent them from unraveling - or leave them unsewn for a distressed look!
Have fun with what areas you do and don’t sew. It’s up to your personal taste.
Annnnd.. that’s it! This project took me less than an hour and I am OBSESSED with the new look! Send me photos of your creations on Instagram!
