11 Reasons I Paint Furniture with Melange Paints ONE
In 2020, I picked up a paintbrush for the first time. I had no idea what I was doing (no one does when they start something brand new), but I figured it out over the years. One of the most overwhelming parts was choosing the paint to use. Trips to the hardware store were long and frustrating, sheens were overwhelming, and the cost wasn’t all that affordable. On the other hand, I didn’t like the flat sheen of chalk paint. Oh, and I HATED sealing everything with a topcoat. That’s when I found Melange Paints’ One Line.

1. A little goes a long way.
You could pretty easily paint a small to regular size dresser with an 8 oz. size. However, always order more than you need. If you’re using a sprayer or changing from one extreme to another (black to white, pale pink to dark green), it will take more paint. The only time I’ve needed a full 16 ounces is when spraying a very large piece.
2. The built-in topcoat is no joke.
I have furniture in my home that I painted over 2 years ago. I never use coasters. I have a destructive kid. I bump into stuff constantly. It has zero chips. Before writing this article, I even scratched it with my finger nail and it didn’t impact the paint at all! The only time I seal now is for the tops of dining tables.
3. The colors are modern and versatile.
Let the color chart speak for itself… and this is on the ONE line (the built-in topcoat option). They have many other options available in other lines. I don’t think I’ve ever struggled to get close to the color I’m needing. My favorites range from Jett Black to Mesa Red to Jacob’s Well… I can’t pick! Many other furniture paint lines seem stuck in Pinterest 2010. Not my style!
4. The finish isn’t chalky.
Melange Paints ONE has a finish somewhere between eggshell and satin. It’s not too shiny, but the sheen gives it added durability and depth. It’ll reflect more light than chalk paint, which makes it look high end rather than painted in your garage. Not to mention it is less likely to stay dirty or show every single brush stroke.
5. The business is run by a female veteran and the paint is made in the USA.
If this is important to you, (and it should be, because men own 63% of businesses and equalling that out would be amazing), this business is a great one to support. It also means the paint is truly high quality. (Using my promo code, MAGGIE10, when shopping their paint ALSO helps a female-run small business… mine!)
6. You can water it down.
This is critical for me. I water paint down in a sprayer, but I also mist my pieces while painting to reduce paint strokes. If you want to learn more about my overall strategies and hacks, check out my very affordable furniture flipping e-course!
7. I use it with a brush or a sprayer.
Having the choice is great. Some pieces are time consuming, while others you want to slap on a coat with a brush. I’ve used Melange Paint ONE in both with zero issues. Just follow the instructions.
8. It dries very, very quickly.
Dare I say too quickly? No, I won’t say that. I just mist the piece with water while painting if it’s hot outside and drying too quickly. But, being able to put the second and third (when necessary) coats on right after finishing the first is invaluable to a busy mom like myself. Give it a few days to fully cure so the paint won’t scratch as easily.
9. The containers are clear so you can see the color and amount without opening.
I’ve used other brands that require you to smear on the paint or open it to see what’s inside. Melange’s clear containers also allows me to see how much is left. Nothing is worse than being excited for a color only to realize you decided to save 1 teaspoon of paint for some reason.
10. The customer service is top-notch.
If you email, comment, or even message them on Instagram, they will help you. They’ve answered my questions, help me troubleshoot, and even recommended the closest shades when picking a color. I’ve never had an experience like that with other companies.
11. There are ways to save money— like using promo code MAGGIE10 at checkout.
They don’t run sales often, so using my code will save you 10% on any order. You can shop my favorite line by clicking here. I often get by with an 8 ounce on my pieces, so you won’t need to splurge on an entire gallon like hardware stores may convince you to do. You’re also saving money on topcoats, gas to the hardware store, and more.
I don’t know many people who have tried Melange Paints and didn’t start using them consistently. I used them once and never looked back. I’ve tried 2 other brands since switching, and they didn’t even compare. I’m a Melange Woman now… and once you try them, you will be, too. Click here to shop, and don’t forget my promo code MAGGIE10!
