8 Reasons Facebook Marketplace Slows Down in June
Ah, the summer months have arrived! School is out, water parks are open, and vacation time is here. But why doesn’t the warmer weather have people reaching for their wallets or scrolling through Facebook Marketplace?
Here are a few things to consider about selling via Facebook Marketplace in June:
1. People are traveling for the summer. Many people have planned vacations. If they haven’t already embarked, they are likely saving their pennies. Buying your items may not be their priority this month.
2. It’s freaking hot, y’all. In Texas, at least. Odds are, no matter where you live, June is pretty warm. If it’s nearing 100 degrees, few people are going to want to spend an hour driving and standing in the sun to load up their items. Offering delivery may help.
3. School is out for the summer. Parents are struggling to find the time and energy to buy and pick up items. It’s hard when you’ve got 3 kids with their own schedules and desires. Not to mention, the sheer cost of feeding kids snacks all day long can put a dent in anyone’s pocket!
4. You might be selling things that aren’t popular for this time of year. It’s June, so people aren’t focusing on Christmas decor or winter boots. Focus on summer items, and remember that items like desks won’t be popular until school is close to being back in session.
5. People prefer to spend less money on Facebook marketplace than they do brand new. And it makes sense! Consider lowing your prices after studying what other people are selling their pieces for. Make sure you are in line with your competitors and aren’t too far off from the average selling price of your item.
6. It may have nothing to do with the timing… check out this blog linked on things to try if your furniture isn’t selling. You may have low quality photos, out of style furniture, or overpriced work for your demographic.
There are lots of productive activities you can do in June besides selling. You can get ahead on projects so you have stock ready to go when selling picks up, re-stage and take new (and better!) photos of your pieces, and - most importantly - you can take a break! Creative minds need rest to maintain creativity, so don’t feel bad about taking the time to reset.
