Activities to Make Bedrest More Fun

When I found out I was pregnant with our surprise baby number two, the last thing I expected was to be placed on bedrest in my last trimester. As someone who thrives on staying busy - not to mention, furniture flipping is what my social media is built on - I became overwhelmed with the thought of doing nothing for three months.
I turned to my social media followers and asked them for fun and unique activities to do on bedrest that didn’t involve watching TV. Here were some of my favorite suggestions that I’ll definitely be trying out:
Relax with an adult coloring book.
I didn’t jump on the adult coloring bandwagon a few years ago, but I am ALL about it now. I struggle with ADHD, and coloring feels like the perfect blend of mind stimulation and relaxation. Plus, this is an activity I can do with my son! You can find my favorite coloring workbook here, and this giant set of (affordable!) color pencils here.
Learn to embroider.
I’ve seen so many fun ways to use embroidery. From Christmas stockings, to funny wall hangings, to photo holders, learning to embroider during bed rest can definitely be a long-term benefit. This beginner embroidery kit has everything you’ll need to get started!
Crochet something for yourself or a loved one.
I absolutely love the idea of learning how to crochet and making something for baby while on bed rest. TONS of people suggested making a baby blanket, which seems pretty manageable. This crochet kit has everything you need to start learning the basics.
Binge that TV show you’ve been wanting to watch.
While I don’t suggest spending all of your bedrest time watching TV, there is definitely no shame in finally catching up on that show you’ve always wanted to watch. OR, get the family together for a fun movie night! This link gives you a 30-day free trial to Amazon Prime Video.
Listen to an audio book.
I love audio books because I can listen all day and not have tired eyes or an uncomfortable neck. I lay back, close my eyes, and enjoy the book! I got SO many suggestions for the Harry Potter audio book series, so I might be checking that out! I prefer to use Audible for my audio books - the selection is truly unmatched, and you get two free books with a trial membership!
Learn to give yourself a dip manicure.
I love having manicured nails, but I always struggle to find the time and extra budget to get them done. As someone who spends most of my time sanding, painting, and working with my hands, it’s hard for me to invest in my nails when I know they are going to get dirty. Learning to give myself a fancy dip manicure is going to be SUCH a time and money saver! I’m using this set to practice and learn with!
Paint along with Bob Ross.
There is nothing in this world more calming, relaxing, and fun to watch than The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross. One of my followers suggesting buying the Bob Ross painting kit and painting along with his show, and I LOVE the idea!! I’m not an artist by any means, but this sounds like such a fun way to learn. And who doesn’t love painting happy little trees?
Work on your handwriting and letting skills.
If you’re like me and you’re insanely jealous of everyone on the internet with amazing handwriting and letting skills, this activity is for you. I purchased a workbook and calligraphy pens to practice cursive and improve my handwriting. This will definitely benefit me in the long run!
In addition to trying the activities above, I’m going to challenge myself to see how much DIY I can do from the comfort of my couch. I recently flipped a dresser using wallpaper and new hardware, you can check out that project on my Instagram!
