How To Refinish Adirondack Chairs For A More Modern Look!

I see so many people throw out Adirondack chairs after they start to show age or wear and tear. The good thing about these chairs is they are typically made with great quality material and can be made to look like new with four simple steps!
Follow these instructions and you’ll be saving money and chairs from taking up room in the landfill:
1. Sand with 120 grit. If you're staining your chairs, sand off all of the original stain or paint. If you're going to paint them, sand just enough to scuff up the wood. You can sand by hand, but it would take days. Instead, grab this $35 sander and you can be done sanding in minutes!
2. Prep and clean your chairs with Krud Kutter. This will help remove all of the excess dust from sanding.
3. Stain or paint! I recommend starting with a pre-stain, then using your color stain. I used a combo of two different stains for the color - one for the body of the chair (Puritan Pine) and one for the arms (Solid Color Stain in Black). If you’re going to paint, use exterior or patio floor paint for durability to withstand the weather and sun.
4. Seal with Minwax Pro Series Spar Urethane. For outdoor chairs, use sealants and topcoats that are intended for outdoor use! The more coats you apply, the more protected your piece will be.
