9 Creative Ways to Hide Your Generator
Do you have an unsightly generator cramping your outdoor vibe? No worries, I've got your back! We just got our generator installed, and I knew very quickly that I was going to need to get creative. I'm here to share affordable and easy tricks that made my clunky machine out of sight and out of mind. Let’s check out some creative, modern, and affordable ways to cover and hide that eyesore of a generator in your yard. This blog contains affiliate links.
1. A Waterfall
Be sure to measure your generator and plan accordingly. You may be able to get away with a smaller size waterfall. Others may need to splurge (or figure out how to build one). Depending on how your generator is angled, you may be able to hide it with just a waterfall on one end. Here are some gorgeous options on Amazon.
2. A Small Fence
The images below are linked direclty to some gorgeous privacy fences on Amazon. It’s extremely expensive to hire fences out. You’d be paying more than this for just the labor, much less the materials. You don’t have to be DIY-savvy to put these in your yard. I especially love the planter version!
2. Sleek Individual Panels
I’ve always loved these for an apartment balcony or homes close together, but they can also be used around your generator. There are countless options, some pricier than others.
3. Large Planters (No Soft Ground Required)
Sleek pots with tall, bushy plants can be a great way to hide your generator. Bushes or short trees will do the trick. If it’s a large enough pot, you may even be able to get away with flowers. You’ll want to line them around the border of your generator. As an added bonus, these can be moved relatively easily for repairs, accessing the generator, etc. Here are some of my favorite modern options.
4. Landscaping
There is so much room for creativity here. I’d recommend visiting your local gardening center to see what survives in your zone (and what’s in stock). Don’t forget to consider your local wildlife, because you don’t want them snacking on your plants. Bare branches won’t hide the generator! The bushier the better, but remember to give a little space from your generator and consider root size. The roots could crack your foundation if the plant gets too big.
6. Planter Walls
Similar to some other options, but with a twist that allows you to grow fruits, veggies, and herbs. It adds greenery, conceals the giant box, and puts food on the table. A triple win, if you ask me! Here are some options you may want to consider:
7. Firewood Pile
You can pile it up or use one of the sleek firewood holders I’m linking in the photos below. Again, this is multi-functional— it hides the generator while supplying firewood for cold winter days. No one would ever guess there’s a hidden generator back there.
8. Privacy Pergola
If it makes sense for your yard, this is a phenomenal option. I wouldn’t put it over/around the generator, but I’d use the shades/privacy sides to hide it. I LOVE having a pergola in my yard. You can pull down the shades to hide the generator and fill the pergola with seating, rug, etc. I got my pergola online, and it’s one of my favorite parts of my yard. Here are some awesome options:
9. A Literal Cover
Nah, this one isn’t creative. But it’ll protect your generator and does seem to look better than a giant metal box. If you get creative, you could even paint it or cover it with artificial leaves (the realistic kind, of course).
There are so many creative ways to hide your generator.
